Nhiên liệu cặn chủ yếu được chia thành hai loại theo thông số kỹ thuật IFO 380 và IFO 180, với tỷ lệ giữa phần dầu cặn và phần cất là hoàn toàn trái ngược với MDO. Đối với IFO 380 98% là dầu cặng và 2% dầu chưng cất, đối với IFO 180 88% là dầu cặn và 12% dầu chưng cất.
